Birthday Celebrations

June 20, Friday

Since my relatives from the States are here in the Philippines, we had to tour them around Manila. This day, I accompanied them to Makati, to shop and to celebrate my cousin Matt’s Chinese birthday. Waking up early in the morning, I joined my mom in sending my brother to school. Then, we went straight to my grandma’s place (that’s where my aunt and cousins were staying). As it was still very early, I still waited for them to prepare themselves for this trip. My mom sent us to the MRT station in Quezon Boulevard. We left their home late already so as to avoid the early morning rush and human traffic. This is their first time to ride a train in the Philippines. I told them this is unlike any other train they have ridden.

I knew it. They were a bit shocked by how it is riding a crowded train here (of course it’s not like that all the time). You don’t need to walk towards the door, you’ll be slightly pushed until you get inside. They were laughing inside and I told them they can write a paper about their experience. After 8 stations or so, we alighted at Ayala and found our way to SM where the start of shopping happened. We ate at Gilligan’s. After shopping continued at Landmark and Greenbelt. When it was around 5:30 pm, I brought them to Powerbooks and told them I had to meet somebody. I met with my cousin Gi to buy gifts. We ate at Capricciosa, an Italian restaurant in Greenbelt 3. Matt’s favorite cuisine apparently is Italian. The ambiance is nice, but the lasagna is too cheesy.

June 21, Saturday

We’re celebrating Mango’s birthday today at Burgoo, Mall of Asia. I rode to jeepneys to reach MOA. Slowly pacing through the mall, I received a text message from Rose who said to meet her in front of Toy Kingdom. I did, and I realized (thanks to Rose) that I had not prepared a gift yet. So I decided to buy a cake from Red Ribbon. We went to Burgoo afterwards only to find out the reservation Lance had made was not written. Rose and I decided to reserve tables for 20. When no one has arrived yet, we just browsed through the menu and joked around saying that it’s actually our date :D . After some time, Jay arrived, then Ian, then Nonoy, then… we decided to order an appetizer, because the others are taking too long to arrive. After we finished the plate, Mango and Lance and Mango’s friends from high school arrived. Picture taking and eating and drawing on the table…

After lunch (3 hours) we went to Power Station and Coffee Bean.
