Google Reader Updates 10/09
I’m one of those who regularly read feeds using Google Reader. I was surprised to see a new section on the navigation pane on the left, and in no time, I was able to find out what the new features from the Google blog.
- Explore – Through the Popular Items and the Recommended Sources, we can always find something new and interesting to read. Popular Items contain feeds from all over, that are, you’ve guessed right, popular and top-rising. These items are gathered using an algorithm and are delivered into this folder according to “what the algorithm feels your interests are.” Although it’s not 100% accurate, it’s still interesting what you find in there.
- “Magic” Personalized Sorting – Oftentimes, we’ve too much feeds subscribed to for us to be able to handle all that volume in a specific time. When pressed for time, for example only having a short afternoon break, selecting the “Sort by Magic” works wonders. It’s based on your reading activity and usage through time, and is personalized according to each user’s tastes – as the recommendations are based on items you share and like.

My Projects
I wasn’t a fan of Google Reader ever since. I find it too confusing to use. The fact that I have to login to my Google account already makes it tedious so I’m using FeedReader instead. Comparatively speaking, the RSS feed reader for Thunderbird is a lot better than Google reader.
Just my two cents.
